4th July 2025, Dubai, UAE: The 10th annual Maritime Standard Tanker Conference 2025 will be held on Thursday 30th October at the iconic Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai, and the conference programme is now taking shape.
Aimed at key decision makers and opinion formers within the tanker shipping business, the event takes place at an uncertain time for the industry, given economic volatility and a host of geopolitical issues. There is also growing pressure to comply with tough environmental regulations, presenting a series of technical and commercial hurdles. While there is long term optimism about the future of the industry, there are certainly short term challenges, and how best to navigate through these will be the core, overarching theme of this year’s conference, Tanker shipping negotiates challenging market headwinds.
The conference will focus on the main headline market trends in the crude, products, chemical and gas tanker markets, highlighting commercial, geopolitical and technical challenges, along with issues relating to sustainability, new technology, and the need to continually upgrade the wide range of services provided to support the tanker sector.
Session 1 in the morning will focus on “ Sustainable strategies - how best to overcome tanker shipping’s current uncertainties”. Speakers with high levels of responsibility and knowledge within the tanker shipping business will reflect on their approaches to implementing sustainable commercial and operational strategies at a time of considerable volatility and unpredictability in their markets. They will draw on their own experiences to assess the best way to maintain optimum levels of vessel utilisation, revenues, profitability and operational efficiency against the backdrop of trade uncertainty, geopolitical pressures and tighter environmental regulations.
Speakers will discuss how best to respond to contemporary market trends in the crude, chemical and product tanker trades, as well as the gas carrier segment. And what the potential challenges and obstacles might be in each of these trades.
Topics will include how geopolitical factors are influencing tanker market activity; the global demand and supply picture for oil and oil products; newbuilding investment patterns; best practice strategies to sustain the momentum towards decarbonisation; and regulatory compliance in tanker shipping in the context of uncertain markets. There will also be presentations looking specifically at the LNG sector; Classification societies and how they can support a sector in transition; tanker scrapping and recycling; the role of shipyards in meeting the commercial and environmental requirements of tanker shipping; and the growing importance of biofuel trades.
